What have you done to your ride lately?

Its extremely difficult to use a plasma cutter with any precision. I actually use it as little as possible. The kerf is huge, like an 1/8", and its difficult to keep a steady hand. I use it for rough cutting only because then I end up having to grind a fair amount to get a clean line.

With all due respect, I think you may have thought that you had a laser cutter in your hands... what you are describing sounds like a plasma... the key for me is speed and being able to touch the part with out having to dunk it in water. The end result can be cleaned up with a grinder. For the very clean stuff, I still plan to use the stack of cut off blades for my grinder. - that's all :D

No, I realize it is what it is but in the shop I use, depending on the cut, I occasionally have options that don't require me to follow up with the grinder. I like no grinding! Basically, my point was just that if I have the option to use something else, I do.

Cutting blades on the grinder cut very pretty lines but they are obviously limited in tight areas.

Boy, what I'd give to spend some with a laser.

Damn, that was quick! Been waiting for an opportunity to post that? I'm surprised you didn't post the Austin Powers scene though. Nice job sticking with the classic.

LoL, I have nothing else to do at 7am waiting for my lab to start. And as for the speed, Droid ftw.
I thought about posting the Austin powers one. LoL

You want real precision cutting with a plasma you need a torchmate

Just burned in the passenger side shackle hanger. Almost burned the thing down when the rubberized undercoating went up in flames, but I got it blown out. Pics once I finish the other side. I think I got some pretty good beads for a newb.

Why are you putting the shackle hangers on first? Makes it much trickier to set the axle position.

Hope you are just tacking them in position first.

I'm going to go through the whole deal on my rear too! I plan on hanging the housing with the perches, lowering the truck to the ground, using a string to go from the center of the driveshaft flange out of the xcase, make sure the string is square with the axle housing (framing square), tacking, remove housing and weld 'er up!

Naw, I welded those things on there. Everything I've read says you want them as far back as possible, right where the full box stops. The Spring Perches have extra holes drilled, so I have some leeway if I need it.
