Don't listen to those chodes. A V8 would destroy your 7.5" R&P and snap CV axles like twigs. Unless you're going to SAS for a D60, 3.4L is the right choice.

We do need someone with those Atomic axles!!! :)

question? if i buy an auto 3.4 does anyone know the year they changed the output size? lots of engines avail from california and dont mind paying 1500 for it, but do need to find out if the change is identified by a "5th vin number is N" type... there are two vin differences but i can not find a forum thread on pirate or yota that show a year engine that is good and the ones that are bad...

Just get a small V8... 5.0 or so.

If you are going to do a CA delivery, let me know exactly what you want, and I will see what my friend Mario can do... he has a very good connection - he replaced his 08 after a hydro lock - paid $1000 for the motor (less than 5k on it) and another $1000 or so for the install. Let me know and I will get him to get a number for you.

engine (out of a 4x4 manual), ecu, and harness. ready to drop in. IE. alt, starter, injectors, fan clutch etc. shipped to 71110 residence. that is on Barksdale AFB.

im military so see if there is a discount haha
limit for the whole thing is 2500 with shipping but would love it to be around 1800 or so.

How about an older Supra I6 swap? I was looking into those for Clyde. I see older Supra's all the time on CL. http://www.4x4wire.com/toyota/tech/supra/ Granted this swap was done into an older Yota, but its basically the same body style, not sure on motor mounts. Something to think about.
that was a good read and got me lookin for supra engines... until the part about the straight axle... i love the ifs and wont change it til i can do both axles to 60s or 44s. blazeland is 1500 for the kit... so ill continue to look for the 3.4

I will see what he can come up with - I'm going leave the price thing blank to see how it comes back. If we need to we'll go back and whack 'em. I will let you know how it goes. I am sending it to him now.

No freaking idea. Here's what Offroad Solutions Says:

If you are using a manual transmission, the 3.4L engine will need to come from a manual transmission vehicle. In SELECT year models we have found a difference in crankshaft machining from the factory. In these instances an engine from an automatic transmission application will not accept a pilot bearing. Another reason to purchase a manual transmission "package" is the difference in electronics. The engine ECU and the engine wiring harness are completely different from manual to auto. Based off experience, we recommend purchasing all the used parts from one manual transmission vehicle. Once again, purchasing all used parts from the same donor vehicle has been proven to prevent grouchy mood swings.
